RUKUNGIRI-Rukungiri District has today approved budget estimates for the financial year 2023/2024 worth 49.8b with amendments.
While presenting the budget, the Bwambara Sub County district councilor who doubles as the secretary for finance, planning, and Administration Gideon Ntungura has noted that in the coming financial year budget, education which is the priority will take a lion’s share where half of the budget is to go in the education sector.
Addressing the council, the Rukungiri Chief Administrative Officer Hajj Masokoyi Wasswa Swalikh has expressed gratitude that Rukungiri District was previously ranked second after Kisoro District with 98 percent in service delivery and therefore rallied both political leaders and technical staff to aim higher.
The Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo noted that Rukungiri District in the last financial year was leading in the implementation of government programs and therefore challenged the administrators to maintain the spirit for the success of government programs especially Parish Development Model (PDM).
Kyomukama Geoffrey, the district boss has said that they made an appropriate budget that suits the central grant and therefore urged his team to cooperate and serve well.
They expect to receive 46.5 billion from Central government transfers, 1.1b from local revenue, and 980 million from donors.
