Police in Rukungiri District are investigating the suspected murder of a 46-year-old woman who was found dead this morning along the Omukarere–Omukishanda road in Nyarushanje Sub County.
The deceased has been identified as Kyohairwe Jenipher, a resident of Katunga Village in Ruyonza Parish.
According to police, Kyohairwe had on Tuesday attended a burial in Kigango Village, where she remained socializing and drinking with other mourners until late in the night. She later moved between the burial site and her mother’s home as she tried to recover her mobile phone, but never returned again.
Her body was discovered at around 7:00am today with injuries on the head. Police from Rubabo and Rukungiri Central Police Station visited and documented the scene, and a K-9 team was also deployed. The body has been taken to Buyanja Health Centre III mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The suspect is not yet known, and investigations are ongoing.
Rukungiri Police PRO ASP Maate Elly confirmed the incident and said inquiries are underway.
