Residents of Kamatabura Cell, Kyitojo B Parish, Bwongyera Subcounty in Ntungamo District are calling for urgent government intervention on the Bucence–Rwankora Bridge, which was washed away by the recent heavy rains.

It is reported that the heavy downpour that occurred on 31/12/2025 washed away the bridge, prompting residents to appeal for urgent action to ease transportation.

Speaking to our reporter, the Chairperson of Kamatabura Trading Centre, Nicholas Tweyambe, said the road is also in poor condition, which makes it easy for water to flow directly and wash away the bridge.

He added that the people of Kamatabura are mainly farmers with large quantities of produce destined for market centers, and with a growing trading center in the area, the road requires quick attention to ease movement and business activities.

Another resident of Kamatabura Cell, Molly Tumwebaze, also raised concern about the poor state of the bridge, saying they have suffered for a long time because of the bad road. She noted that the lack of enough murram on the road has contributed greatly to the bridge being washed away by running water.

She further called on the government, through their leaders, to consider them in development plans, saying the situation is particularly difficult for boda boda riders, as the bridge is currently in a sorry state.

Another resident of Kamatabura Cell, Bambarira Kamuzade, also expressed frustration, saying they have been left behind for a long time. He said they raised concerns about the poor state of the road but were told it is not captured anywhere in the subcounty or district plans. He further alleged that the road was not constructed as it should have been due to corrupt leaders, which has contributed to it being washed away by heavy rains.

However, when contacted, the Chairperson LC3 of Bwongyera Subcounty, Isaac Kakurumba, said he was not aware that the bridge had been washed away. He advised the residents to formally write to the relevant officials about the matter.
