Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, has urged young people, especially educated youth, to focus on creating their own income-generating projects instead of relying solely on white-collar jobs, which he noted are scarce in Uganda.

Dr. Rutahirwa made these remarks on December 18, 2024, while serving as the guest of honor at the 18th graduation ceremony of Makerere College of Business and Computer Studies in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

He emphasized that many youths aim for jobs related to their academic qualifications, yet starting personal income-generating ventures is the key to becoming job creators rather than job seekers.

Dr. Rutahirwa commended the Ugandan government for supporting and promoting vocational education, which equips citizens with practical skills to earn a living. He encouraged graduates to prioritize discipline in their endeavors, noting that discipline is a fundamental trait for success and responsible citizenship.

Rev. Ronald Natuhwera reported that 154 Ugandans graduated during the event, having successfully completed certificates and diplomas in various business, computer, and technical courses.

He praised the graduates for their discipline throughout their studies and challenged them to be good ambassadors in their workplaces. Rev. Natuhwera highlighted the importance of discipline in the professional world, asserting that it is crucial for success.

The function also featured Rev. Edson Ampaire, the North Kigezi Diocesan Missions Coordinator, as the guest speaker. During his sermon, Rev. Ampaire encouraged the graduates to thank God for their achievements and to continue pursuing further studies to advance in life.
