Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahirwa, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Rukungiri Municipality, has called on Christians to support church initiatives aimed at both spiritual and infrastructural growth. Speaking during a fundraising event at St. Francis Nyabihinga Hiika Church in Nyakibale Parish, Hon. Rutahirwa highlighted the importance of giving back to the church as a way of showing devotion to God.

The event was organized to raise funds for musical equipment and choir uniforms, with Hon. Rutahirwa contributing 2 million shillings towards the cause. He emphasized the significance of maintaining a strong relationship between the church and the community for sustainable development. Hon. Rutahirwa urged unity and love among Christians, stressing that development comes from the collective efforts of the people and their leaders, not from division or enmity.

The chairperson of Nyabihinga Hiika Choir, Phausita Kikanshemeza, expressed her gratitude for the generous contributions and praised the attendees for supporting the choir’s needs. She acknowledged the struggles faced by the church and choir due to the lack of essential musical equipment such as speakers, a piano, and choir uniforms.

Fr. Cornlad Atuhiire, the Nyakibale Parish Priest, commended the efforts of the Nyabihinga congregation and local leaders for coming together to support the fundraising initiative. He reminded Christians of their responsibility to contribute to the development of the church and to spread the word of God through both their words and actions. He encouraged the faithful to recognize that everything they possess is a blessing from God and should be used to support church programs.

Among the dignitaries present at the event was Ankunda Andrew Kikira, an aspiring MP for Rukungiri Municipality, who pledged to purchase all the required musical instruments for the choir, including a keyboard, drum, and speaker. Other notable attendees included Rukungiri Municipality MP aspirant Gen. Henry Tumukunde, who contributed 2 million shillings; Advocate Isaac Atukunda, Rukungiri Municipality MP aspirant, who donated 500,000 shillings, and Boaz Matiita, an aspirant for Rukungiri Municipality Mayor.

A total of 7.3 million shillings was raised during the event, highlighting the strong support from the community for the church’s initiatives.
