A tragic event unfolded this morning when Twebaza Martin Kagame, a motorcyclist from Nyakishenyi sub-county in Rukungiri district, was found murdered in Ichuya Forest, Rubanda district.
It is alleged that Martin was hired to transport a passenger from Kampala to Nyakishenyi sub-county in Rukungiri. During the journey, he picked up another passenger who claimed he was headed to Kisoro.
The sequence of events took a dark turn when Kagame was reported missing. His motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer with registration UGE 705U, was stolen by the suspect, who allegedly killed him and then used the motorcycle for commercial purposes in Kisoro municipality. Relatives of Kagame promptly reported his disappearance to the police, who launched an investigation.
Through their efforts, the police managed to apprehend one of the suspects in possession of the stolen motorcycle. The suspect, when questioned, revealed the location where he had obtained the bike and led the authorities to the scene of the crime. The search, led by Nyakishenyi residents, led to Ichuya Forest, where the lifeless body of Kagame was discovered.
Residents of Nyakishenyi, who had been actively involved in the search, found the body in Karengyeri Parish, Muko sub-county in Rubanda district. They are now awaiting police procedures to retrieve the body for a postmortem examination before it is handed over to the family for a dignified burial.
Arineitwe Hisdolo Matumbika, the councilor for Kacence Parish in Nyakishenyi sub-county, confirmed that the suspect who provided the details of the body’s location is currently held at Rukungiri CPS. Matumbika also praised the community’s efforts, noting that over 100 residents participated in the search that led to the grim discovery.
The tragic loss has deeply affected the local community, with many calling for justice for Kagame and hoping for a swift resolution to the case.
