Police in Rukungiri District are on the hunt for Tayebwa Grace, a 35-year-old resident of Kamiira cell, Ndago Parish, Nyarushanje sub-county, who is accused of allegedly raping a 105-year-old grandmother.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday evening, leaving the elderly woman injured and traumatized.
Komunda Aggrey, the victim’s son, shared that he discovered his mother crying in distress upon returning home around 7:30 p.m. He recounted that the suspect, who had allegedly been drinking waragi and smoking marijuana, visited the grandmother’s home under the pretense of checking on her. However, once inside, he allegedly used physical force to sexually assault her, leaving her unconscious. After the attack, Tayebwa is said to have fled the scene, abandoning the elderly woman in a state of severe distress.
The victim was subsequently rushed to a nearby medical facility, where doctors confirmed signs of sexual assault.
She received immediate medical attention, and police at Nyarushanje police post were notified, and the case was officially registered under reference number CD10/30/10/2024.
Efforts to obtain a statement from Nyarushanje Police Post were unsuccessful, as the officer in charge, Emmanuel Enyagurata, referred inquiries to his superiors, citing that he was not authorized to speak on the case.
Police investigations are ongoing, with law enforcement intensifying their search for the suspect to bring him to justice.
