Police in Rukungiri District are investigating circumstances under which Natukunda Enid in her 40s was on Saturday night murdered by her husband Arinaitwe Jackson alias Musondo.

Arinaitwe Jackson the in-charge at Ngoma Health Center 2 in Nyakishenyi Sub County, Rukungiri District, and Natukunda Enid a peasant are all residents of Rwenanura cell, Nyabiteete Parish, Buyanja sub-county, Rukungiri district who developed a misunderstanding on Saturday night leading to a fight that resulted into the instant death of Natukunda Enid.

Neighbors allege that the couple has been having disagreements where the husband was accusing the wife of having sex outside their marriage.

The situation went tense on Saturday night when the wife joined her village members to condole with the family of a neighbor who had lost a relative.  Reaching home, at around 10:30 pm, Enid found the man angry and the two started fighting.

According to eyewitnesses who asked for anonymity, they were called by the son of the couple who alerted neighbors how their father had slaughtered their mother and that he was trying to commit suicide by hanging after taking poison which failed to finish his life.

When the neighbors were informed, they rushed to the scene only to find the man hiding in a separate house/store where he was trying to finish his life too.

They immediately informed the police at Buyanja police post which rushed to the scene and apprehended Jackson who was later rushed to Nyakibale Hospital for medical attention and the body of the deceased was taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary for postmortem.

The Chairperson LC3 Buyanja Agaba Emmy Rubondo has condemned the increased cases of domestic violence in the area.

He said that such cases have left many innocent children suffering with no parental care which he said might affect them in the future.

By press time, police were yet to release a comment.

It’s very sad, I think there so much need for mental health intervention. Most people are so depressed and no one seems to pay attention to it.
