The territorial police in Rukungiri District have launched investigations into the gruesome murder of a man who was reportedly set ablaze by unknown assailants in Nyakyishenyi Subcounty.

The deceased, identified as Allan Tumwesigye, aged between 35 and 40, was a son to Ivan Kayusi, a well-known pork roaster at Nyakyisoroza Trading Centre, and a resident of Kacence Cell, Nyakishenyi Subcounty.

According to local sources, Tumwesigye’s charred body was discovered in the early morning hours of Thursday, November 6, 2025. Preliminary information indicates that he was allegedly caught with a stolen goat, which he had reportedly slaughtered and hidden under his bed before being attacked and set on fire by unidentified individuals.

Community members claim that the deceased had been a habitual thief who had previously been arrested for similar offences, including breaking into homes and stealing goats within the same cell. It is alleged that he had earlier been taken to Nyarushanje Court but later returned to the village, where he continued his criminal acts until his death.

Police have since cordoned off the scene and commenced investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and to apprehend those responsible.

By the time of this report, police had not yet released an official statement on the matter.
