Authorities in Rukungiri district petitioned the ministry of education and sports and the ministry of finance over the delayed completion of Kebisoni seed school in Kebisoni sub county Rukungiri district
The Rukungiri district chief administrative officer Hajji Masokoyi Swalikh Waswa while addressing the district council on Friday said the contractor abandoned the site without completing all the necessary works that were agreed upon in the contract.
Masokoyi said the district has also written to the attorney general to officially terminate the contract awarded MUPA contractors after the expiry of the contract period
The construction of Kebisoni Seed school started in 2018 and was supposed to be completed in 2020, but due to covid, the contract was extended for one year although the construction was not completed.
Officials from MUPA technical services however argue that the Uganda revenue authority deducted huge sums of money from the agreed payments in form of taxes noting that they won’t complete the school before the government pays them.
Winnie Nahurira the district woman councilor Kebisoni sub-county said parents are eagerly waiting for the completion of the school
Geoffery Kyomukama the district chairperson says district officials, will approach the ministries of education and finance to see how best the government can ensure that the school is completed so that it can start operating early next year.
