Members of ghetto groups in Rukungiri Municipality have been urged to embrace discipline, moderate drug consumption, and prioritize security in order to access government support programs.

The call was made today by Buroni Kikanshemeza, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Rukungiri, while addressing ghetto group members at their camp along Karegyesa Road Market Street, B13, in Kinyasamo Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality.

Kikanshemeza encouraged the members to adopt positive behavior, assuring them that the President recognizes the challenges faced by the ghetto fraternity. He emphasized that disciplined conduct would enable them to benefit from government initiatives aimed at wealth creation and skills development.

Smoke Fati, the Rukungiri District Singers Coordinator and ghetto spokesperson, commended the President for promoting peace and unity. He expressed the group’s willingness to cooperate with the government to ensure protection from public mistreatment.

Robert Tukamebwa, an NRM cadre who coordinated the meeting, highlighted that the initiative aims to connect ghetto members to government support, including seed capital to develop their skills and transform their livelihoods.

Isaac Mugumya, the Ghetto Chairperson, expressed gratitude for the government’s engagement and requested that security agencies facilitate their connection to the President for further empowerment opportunities.

Happiness Atuhaire, a member from Rwakabengo Ward, called for government support in providing skills materials, which would enable ghetto group members to earn a sustainable living.

The meeting reinforced the government’s commitment to integrating marginalized communities into development programs and creating opportunities for economic empowerment.
