The Rubanda District Woman Member of Parliament, Akampurira Prossy Begumisa Mbabazi, has urged parents to actively follow up on their children both at home and at school.
Speaking as the chief guest at Nyamweru Secondary School’s Silver Jubilee celebrations, held at the school playground, Akampurira emphasized that parents should not rely solely on the government to ensure their children’s education. She called on parents to engage with their children’s studies, build strong relationships with teachers, and plan for their children’s future as a way of leaving a lasting legacy.
The Silver Jubilee celebration, themed “Honoring the Past, Embrace the Future”, also served as a fundraising event to purchase a coaster bus worth UGX 160 million to improve student transport.
Nyamweru Secondary School Headteacher, Medard Turamyomwe, explained that the decision to buy the bus came after years of spending heavily on transporting students for trips and co-curricular activities. He noted that the coaster will benefit not only the students but also the general public.
Stephen Rupiiha, Vice Chairperson of the Board of Governors and representative of the Diocese of Kigezi, highlighted the importance of education as the foundation of civilization in the region. He stressed that a reliable means of transport is crucial for student safety, time management, and promoting the school through branding once the bus is operational.
The initiative is expected to enhance education delivery and support community development in Rubanda and the wider Kigezi sub-region.
