Celedonia Clare Musiimenta Bakironda, the Rukungiri Secretary for Education, Commercial Services, and Tourism, who also serves as the District councillor for Workers, has expressed concerns about students misusing the current holiday period.
Since December 1st, 2023, students have been on holiday, with the break scheduled to end on 4th/02/ 2024. The upcoming term is set to commence on February 5th, 2024.
Bakironda has urged students to utilize this holiday period by assisting their parents in domestic activities. She emphasized the importance of students starting income-generating projects to earn money for their return to school. According to her, engaging in projects like vegetable growing and animal rearing can be beneficial.
Furthermore, Bakironda highlighted the significance of students dedicating time to revision during the holidays. She believes that staying mentally sharp through revision will prepare them for the resumption of studies when the new term begins.
Bakironda strongly discouraged students from engaging in detrimental behaviors such as adultery, alcoholism, and working in bars, as these actions can hinder their future prospects.
During an interview with our reporter, some students from various schools shared that they have spent their holiday assisting their parents with activities like digging and cooking. Additionally, some students mentioned that they have initiated their own income-generating activities, such as weaving and trading.
