The Rukungiri District Police Commander, Apollo Kyagungu, has called for public cooperation to ensure a safe festive season. He made this appeal on Monday in an interview with our reporter as the festival season approaches.
Apollo reassured the public of the police’s readiness to address any challenges during the period. He highlighted that patrols and surveillance, particularly in crowded areas like markets, shopping centers, and entertainment venues, have been increased. He also plans to meet with all LC3 chairpersons to discuss strategies for improving security within their villages.
Apollo urged motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic rules to prevent accidents.
As part of the safety measures, the police have issued strict guidelines for anyone planning to display fireworks during the celebrations. Apollo warned that violators would face legal consequences. He emphasized that anyone intending to display fireworks must first obtain permission from the Inspector General of Police, as mishandling fireworks can be hazardous.
Apollo advised the public to stay vigilant about their personal belongings, especially in crowded areas, and to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the police immediately. He explained that regular patrols and checkpoints will be conducted to enforce traffic rules and safety guidelines. He encouraged everyone to cooperate with law enforcement to maintain a strong presence and deter criminal activities.
He concluded by stating that, with these measures in place, the Uganda Police Force is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for the public to enjoy the festive season. He also urged the public to prioritize safety and work with the police as they celebrate Christmas.
