The Rukungiri district council has urgently requested the Uganda National Roads Authority to address hazardous spots along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road at Kiborogota, which have been labeled as dangerous. These concerns were voiced during a district council meeting held at the Rukungiri district headquarters.
Council members highlighted various roads under UNRA’s jurisdiction that are currently in poor condition, emphasizing the need for immediate attention.
Hon. Gorret Niwagaba, the district Woman Councilor representing Nyarushanje sub-county, also raised alarms about a blocked bridge on the Nyarushanje-Muhanga road near Uganda Martyrs Technical Institute, where water is flowing over the bridge, posing a risk of collapse.
Rt. Hon. James Turyamuboona, the Speaker of the Rukungiri district council, emphasized that UNRA must take action promptly, as the deteriorating road conditions are posing challenges for both motorists and farmers transporting goods to markets.
Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Rukungiri district chairperson, informed that UNRA has already been notified about these issues. He further expressed concerns about the poor state of the Kebisoni-Minera-Nyarushanje road, calling for urgent assistance from the UNRA Kabale office, as many roads in the district are in dire condition.
Kyomukama stressed the importance of rehabilitating and addressing dangerous spots along the Rukungiri-Ntungamo road to prevent any loss of life.
