The Ministry of Health, through the National Medical Stores, has successfully delivered 2,120,000 insecticide-treated mosquito nets to the Rukungiri district. These nets were received by the district leaders at the district headquarters earlier today.

During the reception of these mosquito nets, Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner of Rukungiri District, expressed gratitude to the government for providing these nets free of charge to the people of Rukungiri.

However, he issued a strong warning to the public, stating that anyone found misusing these insecticide-treated mosquito nets would be subject to immediate arrest, as the government invests significant resources in this initiative.

Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Rukungiri district chairperson, commended the Ministry of Health for their intervention in providing these nets, emphasizing that they would contribute significantly to reducing malaria cases in the district. He urged residents to fully engage in the fight against malaria by embracing the distribution of these nets.

Darius Amanya, a delivery clerk from the National Medical Stores, called for cooperation and coordination in the distribution of the nets to all 88 parishes in the Rukungiri district. This distribution effort is scheduled to span three days, commencing this morning, with deliveries being made at the parish level across the district.

According to Dr. Edson Muhwezi Mpirime, the Rukungiri district’s malaria focal person, malaria cases are particularly prevalent in areas such as Bwambara, Bugangari, and some parts of Ruhinda, especially in Nyarwimuka parish.

However, he is confident that the distribution of mosquito nets will significantly reduce these cases in these areas and throughout the entire district, provided the nets are not misused.
