Rukungiri District Local Government has been recognized for its outstanding performance, securing the 8th position among the best-performing districts in Uganda for the last financial year. The district received a certificate of appreciation from the Uganda Local Government Association (ULGA) during a meeting held yesterday at Lugazi, Bunyaruguru.
The event, attended by LC5 Chairpersons and district speakers, aimed at ranking and awarding high-performing districts. It was also graced by the Minister of Local Government, the Permanent Secretary, and other government officials.
Speaking to journalists after the district council, Rukungiri LC5 Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama expressed gratitude to the government and fellow local leaders, attributing the achievement to teamwork and patriotism.
“This recognition is a result of our collective efforts and commitment to service delivery. I appreciate the government and my fellow leaders for working together to improve our district,” Kyomukama stated.
The meeting also focused on key issues such as combating corruption, ensuring value for money in government projects, and enhancing service delivery, particularly in hard-to-reach areas under the Parish Development Model (PDM). District leaders were urged to conduct technical training and sensitization sessions on PDM and other government initiatives, while also emphasizing the need to fight corruption, embezzlement, and bribery.
Kyomukama called on government leaders to uphold professionalism in service delivery and encouraged Ugandans to actively participate in PDM projects to boost self-employment and eradicate poverty.
“I urge all Ugandans to embrace PDM projects in their areas as a way to create jobs and improve livelihoods. Professionalism among leaders is key to ensuring quality service delivery,” he added.
The recognition highlights Rukungiri District’s commitment to effective governance and development, setting an example for other districts across the country.
