The government has launched a UGX 2.5 billion rehabilitation project at Kigezi College Butobere to improve infrastructure at the school. The contract has been awarded to Vidas Engineering Company Limited, which will oversee the renovation of key facilities.
Speaking during the handover of the site at the school’s main hall, Kabale Municipality Mayor Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha stated that the Uganda Inter-Governmental Fiscal Transfers (UgiFT) funds will be used to rehabilitate the administration block, library, computer laboratory, and students’ hostels, including Bikangaga, Makobore, and Bwankosa. Additionally, toilets, bathrooms, and the kitchen will also undergo renovations.
Sentaro emphasized that while the current project is a great step forward, more funding is needed to restore Kigezi College Butobere to its former glory. He noted that classrooms, the Lumumba students’ hostel, and staff quarters remain in poor condition and require urgent attention. He appealed to the government for additional financial support to complete the school’s full rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, Turyomurugyendo Moses Ntahobari, the chairperson of the Board of Governors, called upon old institution students to restore their alma mater. He stated that the government’s support is a testament to its commitment to education and urged the contractor to ensure quality work is delivered within the stipulated timeframe.
The school’s head teacher, Justus Matsiko, encouraged all stakeholders to actively monitor the progress of the project to ensure its successful implementation.
The rehabilitation project is expected to significantly improve learning conditions at Kigezi College Butobere, enhancing both academic performance and student welfare.
