The incident happened this afternoon during the district’s 5th council meeting, held at the Rukungiri District Head Offices Council Hall, and chaired by Deputy Speaker Karenzi Frank.

While presenting the budget, Ntungura Gideon, the Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Administration, who is also the LC5 Councillor for Bwambara Sub County, assured the congregation that the budget had been reduced by 5% compared to the previous year, which stood at 62 billion UGX.

He confirmed that the funds in the budget are allocated for government local civil servants and various governmental projects, including road construction, school rehabilitation, water supply extension and distribution, production sectors, healthcare, and more.

In his budget presentation, a total of 9,745,912,000 UGX was allocated, of which 8,417,696,000 UGX is for the Higher Local Government (HLG), and 1,328,216,000 UGX is for the Lower Local Government. Specifically, finance has been allocated 402,627,000 UGX, statutory functions 918,142,000 UGX, production and marketing 3,335,334,000 UGX, while education, as the leading sector, received 30,266,837,000 UGX.

Asiimwe Tracy, the Rukungiri Council Clerk, while speaking to journalists, confirmed that this was their 5th council meeting for the 2024-2025 financial year. She also acknowledged the 5% budget decrease compared to last year’s allocation of 62 billion UGX.

Rukungiri LC5 Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama, in his address to journalists, emphasized that the 59.1 billion UGX budget will be used to improve key government projects, especially the repair of roads, bridges, and culverts, to enhance the transportation of goods and services.

He further highlighted priority projects in the budget for the financial year, including the construction and renovation of dilapidated schools to support education, promoting agricultural production by distributing seedlings to residents, and boosting tourism as a means of increasing foreign exchange earnings.

Kyomukama also assured residents that water supply projects would be undertaken to combat water scarcity, including the construction of Kateramo Water Supply in Bwambara Sub County and the rehabilitation of boreholes.

He warned government civil servants to fight against corruption and bribery to ensure effective service delivery in the district. He urged them to maintain high performance standards, aiming to uphold Rukungiri’s record of receiving awards and certificates for excellence.
