Rukungiri district received the smallest amount of funds from the revenue-sharing arrangement with the Uganda wildlife authority among the districts that host queen Elizabeth National Park.

This was revealed today by Onyete Bingaman, the Rukungiri district tourism officer, in an interview with our reporter who noted that revenue sharing depends on the number of tourists who visit a particular district.

He revealed that the district received only UG 211M of which 5%   will be used for administrative costs like supervision.

He said 95 percent of the received funds will be given to communities and households near tourism sites.

Onyete noted that the district has over 20 potential tourism sites, blaming the small amount of revenue-sharing funds received by Rukungiri on the undeveloped tourism sites.

He, therefore, said that people should not only wait for the revenue-sharing funds but instead develop these sites for the betterment of their respective communities, and families as well.

He therefore said that they are trying to source partners to develop the existing tourism sites.

However, Muhangire Spenser, a resident of Nyarushanje Sub County said that the tourism sector in Rukungiri is being let down by poor roads
