Rukungiri Municipal Council’s Councilor for Kigaaga Ward in Southern Division, Baryajunwa Abraham, has urged parents to extend their support to private schools in the same manner as government-aided schools. According to him, private schools play a crucial role in complementing government efforts in service delivery and job creation.
Abraham made these remarks on Monday, November 27, 2023, during the graduation ceremony of Top Class toddlers at Aunt Elvi Mikkola Nursery and Primary School in Kigaaga Ward, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. He represented the Area Member of Parliament, Hon Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, at the event.
Highlighting the positive impact of Aunt Elvi Mikkola Nursery and Primary School in the community, Abraham emphasized that the school has generated numerous job opportunities and provided valuable tailoring skills in the area. This, he argued, underscores the significance of the private sector in local development.
Winnie Tukahirwa, the proprietor of Aunt Elvi Mikkola, expressed concern about the government’s hindrance to the development of the private sector, citing high revenue fares and lack of support compared to government-aided schools, which receive assistance in the form of teachers and infrastructure.
Baryamanya Joram, the LC1 Area Chairperson, commended the school for fostering quality values among learners, noting their decency in the community. He pledged to donate a dozen books for every Primary One entrant the following year.
Nuwamanya Brian, the head teacher of the school, encouraged parents to take good care of their children during the holiday, emphasizing the importance of proper feeding and revision.
