Rukungiri District Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama has criticized the practice of schools conducting classes during holidays, emphasizing that such actions are against the guidelines set by the Ministry of Education and Sports.

In an interview with our reporter yesterday, Kyomukama highlighted that the Ugandan government does not permit holiday classes, despite some head teachers insisting on teaching during this period. He stressed that the Ministry of Education and Sports mandates that learners should use holidays to rest and prepare mentally for the upcoming term.

Kyomukama further stated that schools interested in offering classes during the holidays must seek permission from the Ministry of Education and Sports.

According to the Ministry, Term 2 began on May 27, 2024, and is expected to end on August 23, 2024. Term 3 is projected to start on September 16, 2024, and conclude on December 6, 2024.
