Police in Rukungiri have in cells Mr. Laban  Nsimenta a businessman from Kabingo Eastern ward, Kebison town council Rukungiri district in connection to the murder of AIP Emmanuel Karekaho, a 61-year-old male adult a resident of Kyeshoro cell, Nyabitete parish, Buyanja sub-county, Rukungiri.

Emmanuel Karekaho was killed under unclear circumstances on 6th July 2023 after withdrawing 5.2 million from the centenary bank. 

On a fateful day, at precisely 11:42 AM, the retired police officer withdrew Five million and two hundred thousand shillings from his account number 3200340718 at Centenary Bank, Rukungiri branch. After the transaction, he left the banking hall.

Tragically, at approximately 3:30 pm his lifeless body was discovered by Mr. Magezi Patrick, a 24-year-old farm manager, in Rwakoma cell, Southern ward, Kebisoni town council, Rubabo County, Rukungiri.

According to residents, an unidentified Toyota Wish motor vehicle was seen parked near the scene before the body was found.

Upon finding the body, Magezi Patrick promptly informed his employer, Michael Karekaho, who advised him to report the incident to Kebisoni Police Station.

Mr. Patrick followed his instructions, resulting in the case being logged under SD REF 10/06/07/2023 at Kebisoni Police Station. Rukungiri District Central Police Station was also promptly notified and responded to the situation.

According to the police, Karekaho was robbed, and killed in broad daylight before his body was dumped at the scene in Minera by a Toyota Wish believed to be for the suspect. 

Its believed that last week Police Crime Intelligence Department initiated an investigation into the murder of this retired police officer who was killed under unclear circumstances.

The arrest of Nsimenta Laban was made after he started selling off his Toyota Wish vehicles and replacing them which caused suspicion. The vehicles were doing transport along Rukungiri, Kebison, and Kisiizi roads.

He was arrested on Thursday and is currently held at Rukungiri Central Police Station to help police in investigations

In January 2022, Turyamureba Deus Binyindo a taxi driver on Kisiizi Rukungiri road was kidnapped and his car taken from Kebison.

Cameras last traced him as he was at Busega roundabout, and since then no one has ever traced him despite the hunt for the kidnappers that hit a dead rock.

The missing driver Turyamureeba Deus Binyindo 42, was a resident of Omukibirizi cell, Bwanga parish in Nyarushanje Sub-county according to Musa Tibakirana the Rukungiri District Police Commander.

SP Tibakirana told the press that Turyamureba who was driving a Toyota Premio UBA 318M went missing on Thursday, January 27th, 2022 at around 11 Am from Kisiizi also in Rukungiri District, since he was plying the Bwanga-Kisiizi road.
