Women in Rukungiri, particularly, are eagerly anticipating their participation in the upcoming International Women’s Day celebrations on March 8th, 2024, aligning with the global commemoration aimed at fostering equality and women’s engagement in various developmental endeavors.
In Uganda, the Women’s Day festivities are expected to take place in Katakwi district, drawing attendees from across the nation.
This year’s theme, “Invest in women to accelerate progress,” underscores the importance of empowering women for societal advancement.
Jolly Mashaija, the Chairperson of the Women’s Council in Rukungiri district, who has represented the district in Katakwi, expresses the community’s commitment to joining the global celebration.
She commends the government of Uganda for its efforts in promoting women’s participation in leadership and development initiatives.
While acknowledging the international event, Geoffrey Kyomukama, the Chairperson of Rukungiri district, emphasizes their solidarity with the global Women’s Day celebrations.
He highlights the district’s support for the government’s endeavors in integrating women into leadership roles and development programs. He notes the significant presence of female councilors and committee members within the district’s governance structures.
Additionally, he applauds the progress of government initiatives like the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Program (UWEP) in uplifting women and pledges continued support for such endeavors.
