Swift disciplinary action has been taken against two police officers attached to Muhanga Police Station in Rukiga District after a video of them allegedly engaging in extortion went viral on social media.

The officers, identified as No. 73027 PC Akech Gorrete and No. 77063 PC Omara Sam, have been charged with discreditable conduct under reference Muhanga SD REF. 13/04/06/2025.

In a press statement issued by ASP Maate Elly, the police spokesperson for the Kigezi Region, police management strongly condemned the act, warning all officers against demanding bribes for services that should be rendered freely.

“This act of extortion is unacceptable and goes against the values of the Uganda Police Force. Disciplinary proceedings have commenced, and the officers will face the District Disciplinary Committee,” said ASP Maate.

The police have called on any victims affected by the officers’ actions to report to the Regional Police Headquarters in Kabale to make formal complaints and aid in investigations.

The firm and timely response by the District Police Commander of Rukiga has been hailed as a sign of the force’s commitment to professionalism and accountability.
