Rukiga police have arrested Alfred Rukundo, a 57-year-old resident of Kitaburaza cell, Nyakabungo ward, Muhanga town council, Rukiga district, on suspicion of defiling a four-year-old girl. The incident allegedly occurred on November 27, 2024, at around 6:00 PM at the suspect’s residence, where they are neighbors.
According to reports, Rukundo lured the victim to his father’s house, where he sexually assaulted her. A neighbor who witnessed the act alerted the victim’s mother, Asimwe Charity. Upon discovering the crime, the mother immediately reported the incident to Bukinda police station on November 28, 2024.
Police visited the scene, documented evidence, and conducted a medical examination of the victim.
The suspect was arrested and confessed to the crime, claiming to have been under the influence of alcohol. He was also tested for HIV and found to be positive.
The victim has been administered post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
According to ASP Elly Mate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson, investigations into the matter are ongoing.
