Residents in Ruhinda Sub-county, Rukungiri District, have expressed concerns over poor service delivery in their area, which they say is hampering development in Ruhinda.

Residents say that most areas in the sub-county are grappling with challenges such as rampant water scarcity, lack of electricity, and poor roads, among other challenges.

Baryahabwe Hope, the LC1 Chairperson of Omukengoma Village in Nyakitabire, said that despite their participation in choosing leaders, they are suffering as if they are not in Uganda.

Baryahabwe said their area has never received a single electricity pole or a single meter of water pipe.

Abel Mubangizi, a resident of Rwooya, said that they have been patient for so long, expressing concerns over their leaders’ failure to lobby for the area.

He said they are grappling with the challenge of poor roads, noting that this challenge has continued to escalate as if they don’t choose leaders.

He praised Hon. Mary Paula for her competency, noting that during her time in Rubabo, she worked hard to put the constituency on the map.

He said they have hope that if they trust her, some of the challenges will be rectified.

Ambrose Niwagaba, a resident of Nyakitabire B, said they are disappointed with their leaders, owing to the fact that they have failed to help them get rid of challenges like lack of electricity poles, rampant water scarcity, and poor roads that make it hard for residents to access social service centers, among other challenges.

He asserted that they have decided to support Hon. Mary Paula owing to her record of putting Rubabo County on the map.

Hon. Turyahikayo sympathised with residents in Ruhinda, vowing that she will never let them down in case they trust and send her to Parliament.

She highlighted some of the things she did in Rubabo during her time, such as improving the road network, distribution of electricity, bettering schools, forming and supporting associations of youth, widows, elders, and persons with disabilities, among many other developments.

She said she will at all times work hard for the betterment of people’s living standards.
