Owners of tipper trucks from Rubuguri Town Council in Bukimbiri County are prepared to take legal action against the Kisoro Tippers’ Association if it continues to chain their business trucks.
This decision comes after reports that the Kisoro Tippers’ Association has started chaining trucks whose owners are not registered with the association. The operation has mainly affected truck owners from Bukimbiri, who rely on their vehicles for transportation, especially on market days in Kisoro Municipality.
Recently, two trucks were chained, following a similar incident last week. Rubuguri tipper owners, including Mucunguzi Wilberforce, Barnabas, and Mugambi, voiced their concerns at the RDC’s office. Mucunguzi Wilberforce, also the head teacher at Iryaruvumba Primary School, reported that their trucks were stopped and chained at 10:00 AM, with a demand for a payment of 500,000 shillings each.
However, after intervention from the Kisoro Deputy Resident District Commissioner, the Kisoro Tippers’ Association was ordered to release the chained trucks immediately, without any conditions.
Mucunguzi emphasized that all trucks from Rubuguri are registered under the Rubuguri Transporters Association and have the right to operate freely. He mentioned the financial losses they have incurred and warned that they would seek legal redress if such incidents continue.
Attempts to reach the Chairperson of the Kisoro Tippers’ Association, Munezero Sam, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to multiple calls. Meanwhile, the association’s defence secretary, Hafashimana Junior, stated that the association is arresting trucks whose owners are not registered in an effort to reduce crimes in the transport industry.
