The Mbarara District Primary School Ball Games Championships saw three primary schools emerge victorious. Rubindi Boys Primary School from Rubindi Sub-County won the football competition, while Bukiro Sub-County claimed victory in volleyball with Rubingo One Primary School’s boys’ and girls’ teams securing two trophies. In netball, the host Rwentanga Primary School from Bubaare Sub-County emerged as the champion.
During the event held at the Rwentanga Primary School playground, Mbarara District Chairperson Tumwesigye Didus Tabaro urged the youth to stay in school, as this allows the government to better identify and support talented individuals in sports, thereby aiding their entry into the economy. He emphasized the difficulties the government faces in tracking undisciplined youth involved in criminal activities, including drug use, alcoholism, gambling, theft, and other illicit behaviors.
The Mbarara District Primary School Ball Games Championships were hosted at Rwentanga Primary School in Bubaare Sub-County, Kashari South, Mbarara District. According to Mbarara District Sports Officer Atusiimire Francis, only Rubindi Boys Primary School (football), Rubingo One Primary School (volleyball), and Rwentanga Primary School (netball) will advance to the national competitions, scheduled to take place from August 25 to September 5, 2024, in Soroti City.
District Education Officer Deo Muhwezi noted that private schools have faced challenges in participating in these district events, which are crucial for identifying and promoting youth talents. He stressed that such sports activities provide learners with opportunities to develop their talents and potentially secure employment both locally and abroad.
Secretary for Social Services Kansiime Abraham Manigye commended the organizers for bringing the sports activities to the rural community, suggesting that such events should continue to be held in rural areas rather than being confined to urban settings.
