The territorial police in Rubanda are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 35-year-old Deusi Muhereza, a resident of Mukaziniro Trading Center, who was allegedly murdered by his biological brother, 25-year-old Gerevazio Kamugisha, also known as Kaboy, from Birara Cell, Muyanje Ward, Bubare Town Council, Rubanda District.
It is reported that the two brothers have mentally ill parents, and Muhereza had been caring for them. On the 20th of October 2024, Muhereza visited his parents as usual, bringing them food (posho and beans). After greeting them, he proceeded to prepare the meal. A quarrel erupted between the brothers, with Kamugisha accusing his brother of consistently bringing posho instead of rice.
In the heat of the argument, Kamugisha allegedly picked up a small hoe lying in the compound and struck his brother, resulting in his death. Moments later, their father came out of the house and discovered Muhereza lying in a pool of blood, with Kamugisha sitting next to the body. The father informed the neighbors, who apprehended Kamugisha and handed him over to Kabale Police Station.
Kabale police notified the Rubanda police, who registered a murder case and visited the scene. The hoe used in the attack was recovered as evidence, and a postmortem was conducted. The suspect, who had recently been released from Ndorwa Prison after serving a ten-month sentence for malicious damage and possession of marijuana, was transferred from Kabale Police Station to Rubanda for further inquiries, which are ongoing.
