Rubanda Police are investigating a suspected murder after the body of a local businessman was discovered on Wednesday morning, 16th October 2024, in Mukatasa Cell, Nyarurambi Ward, Rubanda Town Council.
The deceased, identified as 43-year-old Turyakira Erias, was a resident of Kamusegu Cell and well-known in the area for his Irish potato business.
According to reports, Erias left home for work on the morning of 15th October but never returned. His absence raised no immediate concern until a young man, identified as Kyoku, stumbled upon Erias’ body while going to use the latrine of the deceased’s brother, Gerivazi Byamugisha, around 7:15 AM on Wednesday.
Kyoku quickly alerted Gerivazi, who then informed neighbors before contacting the police. Authorities responded to the scene but found that a crowd of onlookers had already contaminated it.
Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed that officers visited and documented the scene. Statements have been taken from relatives and witnesses, and the body has been transported to Kabale Referral Hospital for a postmortem.
The police are appealing to the public for any information that could aid the investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
Inquiries are ongoing under Rubanda CRB:396/2024.
