KAKYENE NAMANYA

Today, a large crowd of mourners gathered in Rushoroza, Kihihi Sub-county, Kanungu District, to pay their final respects to the late Byarugaba Joseph, who passed away at the age of 77. Byarugaba, the father of Akampurira Martin, a cashier at Boona FM, was laid to rest amidst an atmosphere of deep sorrow and reflection.

Reverend Fr. Byaruhanga Vianney of Rushoroza Catholic Parish led the funeral service, offering comfort to the bereaved family and mourners. During his sermon, Fr. Byaruhanga Vianney took the opportunity to address the findings of the 2024 Population Census, which indicated a decline in believers within traditional churches. He refuted the report, arguing that the frequent baptisms conducted every Sunday contradict the census data. “How can we be losing believers when we baptize hundreds of thousands of children every Sunday?” Fr. Byaruhanga Vianney questioned.

The reverend also used the occasion to challenge children of devout Christian parents, urging them not to abandon their faith. He warned that neglecting their religious duties could lead to spiritual consequences for their families. “If your parents fought Satan and you do not take up their role, Satan will take over your family, leaving you in a dilemma,” he cautioned. He further emphasized the importance of the rosary as a key tool in maintaining the Catholic faith, urging Christians to treasure it as a powerful weapon in their spiritual battles.

Speakers at the funeral described Byarugaba Joseph as a hardworking, God-fearing man who lived a life of humility and peace. His contributions to the community were remembered fondly, with many praising his ability to avoid conflict and lead a simple yet meaningful life.

Byarugaba Joseph, who succumbed to diabetes and ulcers, leaves behind six children, 23 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. His legacy of kindness and faith will be cherished by those who knew him.

The funeral was a solemn reminder of the importance of faith and family in overcoming life’s challenges, as mourners reflected on the life and values of the late Byarugaba Joseph.
