Rt . Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has applauded the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe, for his outstanding leadership in promoting education, government programs, and income-generating projects within the Diocese.
Delivering the Deputy Speaker’s message at a thanksgiving service on Sunday, 27th April 2025, Hon. Natukunda Midius Kaharata emphasized Tayebwa’s admiration for Bishop Asiimwe’s commitment to revamping diocesan schools and advocating for initiatives such as the Parish Development Model (PDM) and coffee growing. Tayebwa assured the diocese of continued government support to sustain these achievements.
The Thanksgiving service, held at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, marked Bishop Onesmus Asiimwe’s two years of service since his enthronement.
Addressing the congregation, Bishop Onesimus Asiimwe expressed gratitude to God for the diocese’s accomplishments. He also called for government fairness and urged for the release of Dr. Kiiza Besigye from prison, positioning himself as a messenger of God beyond political interests.
Hon. Mary Paula Kebirungi Turyahikayo, the Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament hopeful, also attended the event. She outlined her ambition to expand the development achievements she had made in Rubabo County to the entire district and commended Bishop Asiimwe’s efforts in promoting education and homestead income through coffee initiatives.
General Henry Tumukunde, a retired military officer and Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament hopeful, praised Bishop Asiimwe for stabilizing the Diocese and fostering unity by putting aside political differences within church activities.
The Thanksgiving ceremony successfully raised over 150 million Uganda Shillings in cash and materials, demonstrating strong community support for the Cathedral construction projects.
