A fatal road accident occurred on Sunday afternoon in Mugwarubale Village, Rubanda Town Council, along the Kabale-Kisoro highway, claiming the life of a 38-year-old man and leaving another critically injured.

According to a statement from Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Maate Elly, the accident happened at around 3:00 PM. It involved a white and green Man trailer, registration number UBN 553L/UBF 738X, and a red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 678AX.

The deceased, identified as Brian Akwankwasa, a resident of Kabirizi, Rubanda Town Council, died on the spot. Akwankwasa was a passenger on the motorcycle at the time of the accident. The rider, who remains unidentified, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a nearby health center for medical treatment.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that the motorcycle rider, traveling from the Kabale side toward Rubanda, failed to negotiate a sharp corner due to high speed. In an attempt to brake abruptly, the rider lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to stagger and throwing both himself and the passenger into the path of the oncoming trailer.

Police officers, led by ASP Abantu Harbert and District Scene of Crime Officer D/Sgt Mbabazi, swiftly responded to the scene. The body of the deceased was taken to Muko Health Center IV for postmortem examination. Both the motorcycle and trailer were towed to Rubanda Police Station for inspection as investigations into the incident continue.

The police have urged all road users, especially motorcyclists, to exercise maximum caution while navigating sharp corners to prevent such tragic incidents.
