Residents and entrepreneurs of Nyabiteete Trading Center in Rukungiri District have raised serious concerns over the poor state of social services, particularly the scarcity of clean water, lack of electricity, and deteriorating road conditions, which they say are stifling development in the area.

Speaking to Boona Radio, Mr. Ndyamuhaki Rumuweri, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyabiteete Trading Center, expressed deep frustration over the ongoing struggles faced by the community. He emphasized that the absence of electricity has hindered economic activities such as welding and other electrical businesses that could uplift the area economically. Mr. Ndyamuhaki criticized leaders for neglecting the community’s concerns, attributing the area’s backwardness to the lack of essential services.

Kamore Deus, another resident, echoed similar frustrations, particularly about the poor state of the roads. He noted that due to the bad roads, transport costs have risen, further burdening residents. He also highlighted the struggle to access clean water, explaining that many are forced to travel long distances to ponds and rivers where water is dirty and stagnant, raising fears of disease outbreaks.

Mbabazi Joseph added his voice, emphasizing the dire condition of the Nyabiteete–Njororo road, which he described as being in a “very sorry state.” He explained that this road is vital as it connects Nyabiteete to neighboring areas like Matsya and Kyomeera. Mbabazi further pointed out that residents often walk to Nkiita to fetch water, which is shared with animals, making it unsafe for human consumption. He also stressed the urgent need for electricity to stimulate local economic activities.

In a unified call, the residents are appealing to responsible government technical teams to urgently intervene and address their challenges to improve livelihoods and foster development in Nyabiteete Trading Center.
