Rev Ronald Natuhwera, the coordinator of the North Kigezi Diocesan Fathers’ Union, emphasized the importance of couples cherishing marriage as a divine gift by honoring and supporting each other. He delivered these sentiments during the Mary’s Day celebration at Rwanyanja Church of Uganda in Bugangari sub-county.
Expressing concern over the declining male attendance in churches, Rev Natuhwera highlighted that many men prioritize worldly pursuits over spiritual matters, often leading to adverse consequences such as incarceration, as evidenced by the disproportionate number of male inmates compared to females, particularly at Rukungiri main prison where he serves as a chaplain to over 800 male prisoners.
Rev Natuhwera encouraged women to embrace their natural appearance rather than resorting to potentially harmful practices like skin bleaching. Additionally, he urged men to demonstrate love and cooperation towards their spouses for the advancement of their households.
Sister Jane Bagaowakyi, the leader of the Mother’s Union at Rwanyanja Church of Uganda, emphasized the importance of parental vigilance, especially during holidays, and stressed the significance of providing children with spiritual guidance through regular church attendance for their proper upbringing. She underscored the necessity of building marriages on foundations of love and mutual trust, urging men to express gratitude to their wives for their indispensable contributions to family well-being.
Rev Richard Kwehangana, the parish priest of Rwanyanja Church of Uganda, expressed gratitude to women who participated in the Mother’s Union workshop, where they received guidance on nurturing transformative family dynamics and resolving domestic issues. He encouraged couples to implement the lessons learned to mitigate the rising instances of domestic violence, which often result in family instability and dissolution.
During the celebration, Rev Kwehangana baptized 18 children from churches within their parish and welcomed new members to the Mother’s Union.
Various activities, including fruit tree planting and gift-giving, were conducted as part of the Mary’s Day festivities, with funds collected earmarked for enhancing the church altar and meeting Mother’s Union obligations.
