During the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Bishop Kivengere Girls’ Muyebe in Kabale District, Honorable Catheline Atwakiire Ndamira, the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, voiced her concern over a growing gap in educational opportunities between boys and girls. This gap has led to a noticeable increase in school dropouts among boys, prompting her to emphasize the urgent need to bridge this disparity.

In her address to the audience, Honorable Atwakiire stressed the vital importance of providing equal educational opportunities to both genders for the nation’s development and the fostering of responsible citizens. She pointed out the prevailing tendency to focus solely on educating girls, neglecting the educational needs of boys, which could have serious consequences for their future, especially concerning marriage. Honorable Atwakiire urged parents in Kabale District to prioritize the education of both boys and girls to ensure the cultivation of responsible citizens.

Highlighting the need for prompt action, Honorable Atwakiire called for collaborative efforts from stakeholders to promote gender equality in education.

The event, presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, the Rt Rev Gaddie Akanjuna, saw representation from the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni, with the Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Sarah Mateke, serving as the guest of honor. Minister Mateke emphasized the importance of cooperation among married couples to address gender-based and domestic violence.
