Rev. Mark Nabimanya, the South Ankole Diocese Education Coordinator, has criticized parents for contributing to the rising cost of education. He argued that parents are not actively protesting high school fees and, instead, are opting for expensive schools over more affordable and equally capable institutions, often for reasons of social status.

Speaking at the pre-primary graduation and school speech day at Kyamate Primary School on Thursday, Rev. Nabimanya expressed concern that some parents are selling family assets, including land, to fund nursery education. This, he noted, can deplete the family’s financial resources, leading to school dropouts at early stages due to lack of funds for completing education.

He urged parents to nurture their children in prayer and faith so they can grow into responsible individuals. He also encouraged parents to engage their children in meaningful activities during holidays and teach them the value of work to prepare them for the future.

Joshua Kansiime, the Diocesan Inspector of Schools, advised parents to trust faith-based schools, emphasizing that they provide holistic education.

Kyamate Primary School Head Teacher, Naome Ninsiima Katsigaire, highlighted the school’s improved performance and growing enrollment. This year, 250 new pupils joined the school, increasing the total number to over 500, up from 230 last year. Additionally, 32 pupils graduated from Top Class to Primary One.

Kyamate Primary School, known for being the alma mater of President Museveni and the First Lady, had faced performance challenges in recent years. However, it has regained prominence in the last two years as one of the region’s leading schools.
