Retired Rev. Adonia Kibangira, the former North Kigezi Diocese Father’s Union Coordinator, urged parents to first fulfill their responsibilities before seeking quality results. He made these remarks during his sermon at the fundraising service for Kishonga Primary School in Rubanga Parish, Buyanja Sub-County, Rukungiri District, on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

The fundraising event, organized by former students in collaboration with church authorities, aimed to raise funds for constructing four classrooms and an office. A total of 7,424,600 UGX, 26 bags of cement, and one trip of sand were collected.

Rev. Adonia Kibangira emphasized that some parents criticize teachers for poor performance while neglecting their own responsibilities. He also highlighted the Church of Uganda’s vision to revitalize its schools, noting that they had previously been neglected.

Martin Kwarija Tusingwire, an old boy and the chief guest, commended the parents for their support of the school and encouraged former students to continue preserving the school’s integrity. He also advocated for unity with church authorities.

Emmy Agaba Rubondo, an old boy and Chairperson of LC3 Buyanja Sub-County, criticized parents who protest against school fees, emphasizing that the government cannot cover all expenses. He appealed to Parliament to amend policies affecting schools to alleviate the burden on head teachers.

Swaibu Matento, the Chairperson of the PTA, praised parents for their strong enrollment numbers and for organizing the fundraiser to improve the learning environment. He encouraged continued support, noting that the school still needs additional furniture.

Kenneth Turyahabwe Rwabutegye, the Head Teacher, expressed gratitude for the parents’ cooperation and assured them that the funds would be used effectively. He also re-invited them for further support, as the funds raised were not sufficient to complete the project.
