Children have been urged to always take care of their parents while they are still alive to receive blessings from God.
These remarks were made by Fr. Ndyomugabe Balthazar, the Chaplain at Nyakibale Hospital, during his words of wisdom at the burial of the late Katarinah Bitaama, aged 90, in Kyeshoro village, Kanyinya ward, Rukungiri municipality.
Fr. Ndyomugabe Balthazar highlighted the disheartening situation where children live luxurious lives while their parents endure misery. He emphasized the importance of caring for one’s parents, acknowledging the solid foundation they provided. Additionally, he advised women to respect and care for their mothers-in-law, ensuring they feel loved and happy in their old age rather than mistreated.
Fr. Nyomugabe praised the late Katarinah Bitaama for her devout faith and significant contributions to the construction of Rwengwe Catholic Church and her family. Canon Sabit Mahirane, a family friend, described Katarinah as a woman who loved and cared for everyone, regardless of religion or background, and valued education highly.
Julius Mworozi, the director of New Palm Hotel Rukungiri, and John Basheija, sons of the deceased, spoke of their mother as a person who taught them to make friends and share what they have with those in need, supporting many in their education.
Hon. Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa Omuturagye, the Rukungiri Municipality legislator, offered his condolences to the family and praised the deceased for her impactful legacy. He informed the mourners about the ongoing efforts by their leaders to improve service delivery, including extending electricity to rural areas, renovating roads and bridges in the southern division to enhance transport services, and constructing southern division offices.
The burial mass was led by Rev. Fr. Elias Kasigaire, the parish priest of Nyarushanje parish. The late Katarinah Bitaama is survived by 8 children, 35 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.
