The Assistant Priest of St. Peter’s Catholic Parish Buyanja, Rev. Fr. Chrispino Mubangizi, has urged children to fear and respect their parents as a way to live longer and receive blessings from God.
He made the call on Saturday, October 18, 2025, while presiding over a thanksgiving Mass organized to celebrate the 90th birthday of the elderly Legiina Kakitojo Ruraka at her family home in Kagarama A, Rwakirunguura Parish, Buyanja Sub County, Rukungiri District.
Quoting from the Book of Exodus 20:12, Fr. Chrispino reminded believers that honoring one’s parents is a divine commandment that brings long life and peace. He encouraged the younger generation to value parental guidance and uphold family unity rooted in faith.
Legiina Kakitojo Ruraka, the nonagenarian, expressed gratitude to God for the gift of long life, attributing her 90 years to the protection of the Virgin Mary, to whom she dedicated her life at a young age, and to the blessing of a united and stable family.
Her elder son, George Byaruhanga Ruraka, thanked God for the successful celebration, noting that their late father, Raphael Ruraka, passed away 50 years ago. He praised their mother for her resilience in raising and educating them while nurturing strong Christian values.
Another son, Alex Barungi, commended the grandchildren for organizing the event, saying it was a moment to appreciate neighbors for their peaceful coexistence and to honor their grandmother for her role in shaping their lives.
Bright Natumanya, the eldest grandchild, said the thanksgiving was organized to fulfill their grandmother’s long-time wish of hosting a Mass at her home to thank God for His continued protection and wisdom granted to their family.
The celebration raised Uganda Shillings 2,075,100 (Two million seventy-five thousand one hundred shillings) to support church activities within St. Peter’s Catholic Parish Buyanja.
