Retired Archdeacon Rev Canon David Kahindi of North Kigezi Diocese delivered a keynote address on Friday, January 12, 2024, urging Lay Leaders to safeguard their roots during their service for future benefits in retirement. The message was conveyed during a one-day retreat organized by the Buyanja Lay Leaders Association in Buyanja Sub County. The event, held at Rwamugyenyi Heritage Hotel in Rwashamaire Town Council, Ntungamo District, featured Ms Hope Mutabazi as the guest speaker alongside Rev Canon Kahindi.

Kahindi stressed the importance for Lay Leaders to value their church projects, which they pass on after retirement, and encouraged them to show respect to their congregations while preserving their personal backgrounds. Ms Hope Mutabazi, in her address, called on women to uphold their husband’s natural rights, lead righteous lives before their spouses, and establish cottage industries to support their families.

Tindimwebwa James, Chairperson of the Buyanja Lay Leaders Association, expressed excitement about the retreat, highlighting its purpose to rejuvenate the leaders, explore new perspectives in their service areas, and foster solidarity in their shared calling.

Jesca Mwebaze, wife of the retired Lay Leader Livingstone Mwebaze from Kibunda Nyakaina Buyanja, shared her enthusiasm about witnessing the historical creatures she had only heard about. She particularly mentioned the joy of experiencing water transport, noting that the excitement contributed to extending their lifespan.

Prior to their stay at Rwamugyenyi Heritage Hotel, the Lay Leaders visited Mutuumo Island Resort at Lake Nyabihiko in Rwashamaire Town Council, where they encountered fascinating creatures in the water and vegetation. At the hotel, they also had the opportunity to explore a fully stocked museum showcasing traditional materials that have become obsolete.
