The Electoral Commission has conducted repeat elections in several areas across the country where the initial electoral process was not successfully concluded. In Ntungamo District, five electoral areas held residual elections following the polls that were conducted on February 5, 2025 but failed to produce representatives due to various reasons.

According to the Ntungamo District Electoral Commission Returning Officer, Charles Wafula, all voting materials were received on Wednesday evening and successfully dispatched early Thursday morning to the respective polling stations where voting was scheduled to take place.

Wafula explained that the materials reached all the five electoral areas in time, allowing the voting exercise to begin at 7:30 a.m. as planned. Voting is expected to close at 4:00 p.m.

The elections are being conducted at a total of 21 polling stations across the five electoral areas.

In Kikoni A, located in Central Division of Ntungamo Municipality, voters are electing the LC3 Sub-county Direct Male Representative. The race is between Martin Tusiimire of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Nathan Twinamwire of the People’s Front for Freedom (PFF). Voting in this area is taking place at five polling stations.

In Nkongoro B in Nkongoro–Nyabihoko, Kajara County, voters are choosing between Florence Loyce Mbabazi of NRM and Gloria Arinaitwe, an Independent candidate. Elections in this area are also being conducted at five polling stations.

Meanwhile, in Kyamate Ward 3 in Eastern Division of Ntungamo Municipality, voters are electing the LC3 Female Councillor. The contest is between Provia Mbabazi of NRM and Agnes Rukundo, an Independent candidate. Voting here is taking place at two polling stations.

In Rukoni B in Rukoni Sub-county under Ruhaama East Constituency, voters are electing the Sub-county Woman LC3 Councillor. The race is between Gloria Kembabazi of NRM and Mackline Nasasira, an Independent candidate. Elections in this area are being conducted at eight polling stations.

The final electoral area is Nyamukana Town Council where voters are electing the Older Persons Representative under the Special Interest Group category.

Wafula noted that the election process has so far remained peaceful, attributing the calm environment to the presence of security personnel and the professionalism of presiding officers. He also confirmed that Biometric Voter Verification (BVVK) machines are being used to verify voters during the exercise.

He further revealed that tallying of the votes will take place at the Electoral Commission offices, which have been gazetted as the official tally centre. The tallying process is expected to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the presence of candidates and their two agents each.
