Residents of Kafunjo Kyogo Cell, Nyakaina Parish, and Buyanja Sub County in Rukungiri District have expressed their readiness to boycott the upcoming general elections due to poor government service delivery in their area.

They accuse high-profile government officials, including Members of Parliament and Councilors, of neglecting them in the distribution of services such as water, electricity, and road maintenance.

Scovia Kamukama Nalongo voiced frustration over having to consume contaminated water, which she says not only affects the taste of food but also spreads diseases.

Kweyamba Justus highlighted the challenges of keeping the few shallow wells they rely on clean, noting that these wells dry up during the dry season and flood during the rainy season. He called for urgent government intervention to provide clean water.

Erick Karyieja Rwemizano lamented the lack of care for the existing shallow wells, which he said are failing. He vowed to boycott the upcoming general elections unless meaningful action is taken.

Rose Komugabe assured that ongoing mobilization efforts are in place to encourage a boycott of the elections due to the neglect they face, despite having elected promising leaders in the past.

Nyansio Kamugisha, the parish councilor, confirmed that residents are consuming contaminated water despite having repeatedly reported the issue to authorities with no response. He expressed concern for the welfare of the community.

Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the Chairperson of LC3 in Buyanja Sub County, acknowledged the widespread shortage of clean and safe water in the area. He criticized the unfulfilled promises of the Kahengye Water Project, which was supposed to serve the community, and urged locals to safeguard the few existing water sources.
