Residents of Kyenyi Parish, Muko Subcounty in Rubanda District have been left stranded after heavy rains and storms destroyed property, including roads, crops, and livestock. The Kyenyi–Kabisha–Rubanda Town Council road has been cut off by floods.

The rains, which fell on Wednesday 17th September 2025, caused massive destruction to residents’ property, affecting their livelihoods.

The Muko Subcounty LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Abeneimwe Patrick, well known as Mukwate, confirmed the incident while speaking to Boona Radio. He expressed unhappiness and panic among residents of Kyenyi following the heavy rains and storms, which resulted in destruction of property, death of livestock such as goats and sheep, destruction of crops—mainly Irish potatoes and beans—landslides, and blockage of key feeder roads, including the Kyenyi–Kabisha–Rubanda Town Council road, which remains impassable.

Despite communal works (Burungi Bwansi), he noted that the recurring landslides and floods continue to cause major losses for farmers and local residents.

He further confirmed that a bridge between Kyenyi and Kabisha on the Kyenyi–Kabisha–Rubanda Town Council road was washed away by floods, calling for urgent intervention from the Rubanda District Local Government, especially the District Engineer and the LC5 Chairperson, Mr. Ampeire Steven Kasyaba.

In response, Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Mr. Ampeire Kasyaba Steven acknowledged the disaster, which left people of Kyenyi stranded and frustrated on Wednesday 17th September. However, he noted that there is currently no support or funding available for residents whose property was destroyed.

On the washed-away bridge connecting Kyenyi and Kabisha, Mr. Kasyaba confirmed it was already under construction but heavy rains and floods disrupted the works. He assured residents that construction activities would resume once the rains subside.
