The Diocese of Kigezi has raised over UGX 793 million in cash and pledges during the Bishop’s Development Fund (BDF) drive held today at Rugarama Hill, Northern Division, Kabale Municipality.
The annual fundraising drive aims to mobilize resources to complete a UGX 3.1 billion commercial mall under construction along Kabale–Kisoro Road in Kabale Municipality. The mall, being constructed by Murumba & Company Building and Construction Limited, is expected to be completed later this year and will serve as a sustainable income-generating project for the diocese.
Addressing Christians, the Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support shown towards church development projects. He also commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for fostering peace and unity across religious denominations and for initiating poverty eradication programs that continue to transform communities.
“We are grateful to our Christians for their generous contributions and to the government for supporting development efforts that uplift livelihoods,” Bishop Akanjuna said.
The event’s chief guest, Al-Hajji Hassan Basajjabalaba, the Central Executive Committee Chairperson for Entrepreneurs, was represented by his brother, Jafari Basajjabalaba, the LC5 Chairperson of Bushenyi District. On behalf of the family, he contributed UGX 100 million towards the project.
Jafari Basajjabalaba also praised President Museveni for fighting identity-based politics, noting that this has paved the way for meaningful social and economic development in Uganda.
