Residents of Nyamweru Sub County in Rubanda District are protesting the poor condition of Kakarisa Bridge, which connects the parishes of Nyamweru, Kakyenaga, Kyokyezo, and Nangara. Elia Kyomuhendo, Bosco Twimukye, and boda boda rider Onesimus Orishaba say the bridge’s state has made it difficult for them to transport produce to markets. Despite repeated appeals to authorities, no action has been taken to repair it.

Gerald Korugyendo, another resident, adds that the bridge is hazardous, with locals having resorted to using wooden planks to cross. He criticizes both the district and sub-county leadership for their delay in addressing the issue, putting residents’ lives at risk.

Nyamweru Sub County LCIII Chairperson, Alex Nkwasiibwe, acknowledges the poor state of the bridge, which worsens during rainy conditions. He claims to have reported the issue to the district authorities and is awaiting their response.

Rubanda District LCV Chairperson, Steven Ampeire Kasyaba, explains that the delay in rehabilitating the bridge is due to financial constraints. He calls for patience, assuring residents that once the district secures funding, the bridge will be a priority.
