Police in Bushenyi District have arrested a 47-year-old man on murder charges and are searching for four others in connection with an aggravated robbery.
The incident occurred on September 23, 2024, at 5:00 a.m. in Kyeigombe B village, Kyeigombe Parish, Kyabugimbi Sub-county, Bushenyi District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Akim Beinomugisha, 40, a farmer and resident of Kibona A village, Kyeigombe Parish, Kyabugimbi Sub-county. The suspect was identified as Yokobo Kamukama, 47, a farmer and resident of Kyeigombe B village.
According to reports, on the morning of September 23, 2024, a group of about five unknown assailants attacked Kamukama at his home, stealing UGX 2 million that he had recently received from the sale of a piece of land. After seizing the money, one of the assailants, armed with a knife and a stick, began assaulting Kamukama. In self-defense, Kamukama grabbed a spear next to his bed and fatally stabbed the assailant twice in the chest. The remaining attackers fled with the stolen money.
Kamukama raised an alarm that drew the attention of the area chairman and neighbors, who identified the deceased as Akim Beinomugisha. Tumusiime stated that the body was taken to Kyabugimbi Health Centre IV for a postmortem, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
