Residents of Rubaare Sub County in Ntungamo District have expressed their appreciation for the ongoing government program that aims to provide every Ugandan with a land title.
Kere Turyakira, a resident of Buzooba Cell, Kagugu Parish in Rubaare Sub County, stated that he is pleased with the program and that his fellow community members have eagerly participated. He emphasized that, despite circulating rumors suggesting that the government may take their land, he remains unconcerned. Turyakira highlighted that having a land title will allow him to easily secure loans from financial institutions by using his land as collateral.
Pulitaz Kinaga, a resident of Nyamarebe Cell, Omungyenyi Parish, shared with our reporter that he embraced the program immediately after being sensitized by sub-county leaders. Kinaga also mentioned that having a land title would safeguard his land and help prevent future conflicts over land ownership, benefiting his children and future generations.
Robert Sikubwaabo, the LC1 Chairperson of Nyamarebe Cell, Omungyenyi Parish, noted that the majority of residents welcomed the program when the government announced the start of land registration. He clarified that residents who already had land titles or owned very small plots were not included in the registration process. Sikubwaabo further emphasized that residents were not required to pay any fees, and even the forms were provided free of charge.
John Twinimujuni, the LC2 Chairperson of Omungyenyi Parish, confirmed that the program was well-received in his community, although the sensitization efforts took place after the initiative had already begun. He pointed out that those who did not participate were primarily individuals dealing with domestic conflicts. Twinimujuni also criticized the ongoing misconceptions that the government will seize people’s land, assuring that sensitization efforts are still underway to address such fears.
