After a long period of complaints from the residents of Kyarukamba Cell, Ruyonza Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-county in Rukungiri District regarding the lack of water sources, they now have a reason to smile. They are grateful to Mr. Goodwill Muzoora, the Nyarushanje Sub-county Health Inspector, for addressing the issue by rehabilitating their water well.

Led by former Ruyonza Parish Councillor Mr. Biryomumisho Pauson Kajere and Kabimba Cell LC1 Chairperson Mr. Kasigazi Vincent, the residents highlighted the challenges they had faced. Due to a lack of water sources, they were forced to walk long distances in search of water. The three villages of Kabimba, Kyarukamba, and Kicwamba had been relying on a single well, which was in poor condition. The low water output forced residents to wait 20-30 minutes to fill just one jerrycan.

The situation put the community at risk of waterborne diseases, as they were fetching water from contaminated ponds shared by both people and animals. The residents praised the collaborative efforts between all villages and their health inspector, Mr. Muzoora, which led to the rehabilitation of the well, addressing their long-standing water challenges.

They also expressed gratitude to Rukungiri District Member of Parliament, Hon. Naboth Namanya, for providing them with a 100-meter water pipe to help in the rehabilitation of the well.

Mr. Goodwill Muzoora, the Nyarushanje Sub-county Health Inspector, explained that the residents had long been facing the challenge of inadequate water sources and would spend entire days fetching water from the deteriorated well. Concerned about the health risks posed by the use of contaminated water, he mobilized the community to rehabilitate the well.

He urged the residents to cooperate with the committee appointed to oversee the maintenance of the water well, ensuring it remains clean and safe for use.
